The Rise of Alcohol Free Bars & Clubs

TABLE OF CONTENTS

The drinks look good: vibrant reds and greens; fresh mint and crushed ice bursting from the glass; petals; a rim of salt. The drinks taste good, too. But there is something missing. The soporific burn of alcohol. As anyone coming to the Redemption bar in east London is warned on arrival, these drinks are dry. Redemption is one of the first in the wave of alcohol free bars. Although if you didn’t get the warning, you could work it out from the names of the cocktails (“mocktails”). Here’s a “mock-jito” – muddled fresh mint and lime – or a “coco-rita”, based on coconut water.

Redemption is the brainchild of Catherine Salway, the former group brand director of Virgin Media, who left two years ago “to pursue my own idea – something that was disruptive and socially conscious”. She hit upon an alcohol free bar when she was meeting a friend with “a bit of a drink problem” and couldn’t think where to go. “There are coffee shops and juice bars but there wasn’t anywhere that felt like you could have a proper night out.”

Salway is not the first to start in alcohol free bars. In Liverpool, the Brink opened in 2011, as a social enterprise to help those recovering from alcohol addiction. The past year has seen turnover rise by 50%, says its manager, Jacquie Johnston-Lynch, who describes her customer base as “50% recovery community, 50% a combination of Joe and Josephine Bloggs who come in because they love the food – students, grannies out for lunch, business people, musos.”

Sobernightlife.net, Inc., launched in 2008, was created to be a complete nightlife network for the sober community. People living in sobriety or who just like to go out and have fun sober, can now find and have access to engaging sober parties, venues, events, & nightlife activities.

The main goal is to bring you the best nightlife that you can have living the sober life! Sobernightlife.net, Inc. is the world’s first and only online venue forum and event company for the sober community. Owned and operated by people living in sobriety, sobernightlife.net is bringing the sober community new venues, events, and other social gatherings around the country where they can socialize without the stresses and pressures of non-sober events.

Sober Nightlife addresses the needs of a vibrant and growing recovery community. Sobernightlife.net Inc., the world’s first sober nightlife organizer, is rapidly expanding its reach with a newly launched interactive website www.sobernightlife.net. With a mission to bring an exciting nightlife alternative to the nation’s sober community, Sober Nightlife partners with alcohol free bars, lounges, coffee shops, and nightclubs to produce events that specifically cater to people in sobriety. Sober Nightlife has launched parties in Miami, Los Angeles, New York City, Ohio and all over South Florida.

How Our Free Helpline Works

Quit Alcohol’s helpline is a private and convenient solution for those seeking treatment for addiction or mental illness. Calls to our helpline (all non-facility specific numbers) will be answered by a caring rehab advisor from Treatment Addiction Solutions or one of our verified treatment partners. Calls are routed based on geographic location and will help you navigate:

  • The various levels of care in relation to your overall treatment needs, budget, and insurance plan.
  • Additional factors such as co-occurring mental health disorders, family dynamics, and more.
  • Both local and out-of-state drug and alcohol addiction treatment options.
  • Understanding what to expect from the entire process so you can confidently get the help you need to start feeling better.

Our helpline is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at no cost to you and with no obligation for you to enter into treatment. In some cases, Quit Alcohol charges our verified partner a modest cost per call, which helps us cover the costs of building and maintaining our website. We do not receive any commission or fee that is dependent upon which treatment provider a visitor ultimately selects.
