When you enter a drug rehab program, you do so with one thing in mind: overcoming your addiction to ensure a better life in the future.

While many people are successful in doing so, most find that it is not easy to stay on track along the way. Even with the help of an experienced medical staff, you are likely to have cravings while dealing with other challenges that test your resolve.

Inpatient Treatment

With inpatient drug rehab, you don’t have much to worry about in terms of outside influences and the ability to abuse these substances. After all, you will be under medical supervision 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

On the flip side, there are people who opt for outpatient treatment. With this, you will receive treatment during the day but return to your home every evening. As you can imagine, this increases the chance of relapse. Even though you know that using drugs will make your time in treatment pointless, it can be difficult to resist the temptation.

Note: just because you are in an inpatient treatment facility doesn’t mean you won’t have chances to abuse drugs. It is a very real possibility that a “friend” or family member could sneak you drugs. This may be something you crave, but if you truly want to achieve success it is something you must avoid. If you think you will be tempted to revisit your old ways when others visit you, suggest that these people stay away during your time in the facility.

Make sure you’re confortable

Finally, make sure you are 100 percent comfortable with your rehab program. The last thing you want is to trade one type of drug addiction for another. For example, many people overcome a heroin addiction through the use of powerful prescription drugs. The problem with this is simple: they end up addicted to the prescription medication, thus facing another problem.
